The Newspaper "The Jersey City News" published on August 20th 1896 the following Article about a young German called Arthur Steup. His assignment to the family tree is not yet possible.

HIS WIFE NEEDS PUNISHMENT.

Arthur Steup, a young German of No. 33 Third Street, Hoboken, was arrested this morning on complaint of his wife, Georgiania, who charged him with beating and kicking her last night. She presented a pitful appearance in court. Her face was battered in a terrible fashion. She said that she had given her husband no provocation, and that he had acted from sheer malice. Steup said that his wife was too fond of the company of other man. "I found," he said, "that this was the only way i could bring her to her senses. She needed punishment and i gave it to her." The Recorder could not take this view of the case and committed the brutal husband for the Grand Jury.
