- Dorothy Blucher was conceived before marriage but she did not discover this until the 1940's! Apparently, sometime after her mother's death, Dorothy was arguing with her father (a frequent occurrence according to Anne, her youngest sister), playing on her parents' feelings, saying how splendid her mother had been and how horrible her father. On one occasion Hans relatiated by telling his daughter that she had been conceived out of marriage, which she refused to believe. Hans continued, however, and showed his errant daughter her birth certificate along with his marriage certificate to Christina.

The story was related to Martin by his mother, Anne at a time when Ivor, her brother was visiting and he didn't know this fact either - he'd always assumed that the date of marriage had been in 1912! (Goes to show that it happens in the best of families!)
